Q: What is a credit Score?
A: A credit score is a number that lenders use to predict the likelihood that you will repay a loan. Among many other factors it helps them determine how risky your loan will be, it also is used to help price (set the interest rate) the loan based on historical patterns of risk.
Q: What factors determine my credit score?
A: The basic formula is as follows:
35%- Payment History- Do you pay on time, if late how severe
30%- Capacity- How much you owe, especially on revolving (credit cards)
15%- History- How long you’ve had credit
10%- New Credit- Frequency of new accounts
10%- Credit Mix- Mortgage, Installment, & revolving accounts
